As the prime contractor, TEN modernized the aging central utility plant at a 1,500-bed correctional facility for the Pennsylvania Department of General Services' State Correctional Institution, Houtzdale. Completed in July 2023, the project delivered a high efficiency systems while minimizing disruptions in the occupied facility. The upgrades improved energy efficiency, reliability, and operational performance.

Team Delivered
- Converted central steam plant to compressed natural gas and constructed a compressed natural gas unloading facility
- Installed 2 new 350-HP boilers and refurbished 2 existing units
- Added 3 new 400-ton chillers with cooling towers
- Upgraded to variable flow hot water pumping systems and modern plant controls
- Replaced heating and cooling distribution lines to the entire facility
- Implemented new BACnet building automation system with fiber-optic infrastructure, variable frequency drives, and unit controllers
- Completed lighting retrofit with 7,000 LED fixtures
